How to Embrace the Messy In-Between
This journey is not easy.
Healing our deepest wounds,
Becoming the women we’re meant to be,
Shedding the layers of who we’re not.
It’s often uncomfortable and messy,
Straddling two worlds,
One foot in the past,
One in the future you are building.
Trying not to fall down as we stumble,
Struggling to find our way.
I like to call this stage the messy in-between.
It can be a challenging place to be as we navigate change while the burden who we used to be is still a part of our daily lives.
In this stage impatience usually takes root. The “I want it and I want it now” saboteur can become loud, consuming our thoughts and making it difficult to see the positive in all the growth and hard work we’ve done. How do we cope? How do we handle this phase of life? How do we stay (somewhat) sane as a part of our soul goes crazy each day?
Lean. The. Fuck. In.
Embrace it. Embrace it exactly as it is. Not as you think it should be. Stop fighting it. When we fight our reality it gives control to everything that’s not working in our lives. When we embrace our reality (even if it doesn’t feel good) we can learn to navigate this in-between with more ease and grace, allowing us to be present in the new life we’re creating. Fighting what is (our reality) is like swimming upstream against the current. The more we fight the current the more difficult swimming against it becomes. This analogy can be applied to this in-between stage. The more we focus on negative aspects (our old life) the worse the situation seems. For instance, the shitty job, the energy-sucking boss, the city that’s no longer aligned with who we are, the friends who we’ve outgrown, etc. When we stop swimming against the current we float effortlessly downstream. All the energy that was being used to fight it can be used elsewhere (to create our new lives).Fighting is exhausting and doesn’t leave much room for anything else. It creates inner turmoil, conflict and struggle.Once we embrace what is, all the energy we were using to fight is freed up. Space is created. There is room for growth and new opportunities. You can fully embrace where you are, even if it’s a bit messy while you navigate the in-between. And remember, this in-between stage is temporary. It won’t last forever, but the more you fight it, the harder it will seem. Sending love from the shadows,
Xo,
Em
