How to begin a journaling practice (+free guide to get you started)
Several years ago when I was unhappy in my job and in life #quarterlifecrisis, I realized the importance of journaling. It was a time of deep frustration and of feeling stuck and confused. I was at a crossroad in life and needed to make some big changes which all felt overwhelming.Beginning a journaling practice allowed me to navigate through these emotions, and ultimately, helped me find my way. 15 - 30 minutes a day of journaling a day can be life changing. And if you’re here reading this, I have a feeling you’re ready for something to change. Journaling can be that change.
Some benefits of journaling:
1. Journaling is a place to find ourselves.
A place to reconnect with who we truly are and what we want most. We often hide much of who we are from the world and journaling can be our personal safe haven that allows us the freedom to just be us, feel what we need to feel and be who we need to be without holding back. So no filter. Just rawness. Just the real you.
2. Journaling is a place to let go.
We hold on to SO MUCH STUFF (emotions, pain, hurts) from our past, but journaling can be a place to release is and let it go of it once and for all. So as your pen moves across the paper you can let it all go. You can dive into it on a deeper level. The emotions. The turmoil. The frustrations. Letting it ALL go!
3. Journaling is a form of meditation.
And allows us to clear the mind. To free ourselves from the chaos, the inner chatter, the monkey mind. Most of all, allowing us to find peace and quiet.
4. Journaling can help you gain clarity.
As the words flow witness your dreams come alive. Witness your creativity being liberated. And your soul finding that clarity that it craves.
5. And. SO. MUCH. MORE!
How to begin:
My biggest piece of wisdom is JUST GO FOR IT. The only wrong way to go about it is to not do it. You can free flow, stick strictly to these prompts (click image below), or do a combination of both.I also recommend picking a time of day and sticking to it. It can be in the morning before work, during your lunch break, or in the evening before bed. It doesn’t matter as long as it feels good to you and you can commit to it.And remember…The are no rules. Just let the words flow. So don’t control them, don’t edit, don’t judge. If it needs to come, let it come. Trust your inner wisdom. Be consistent. Pick a time. And stick to it.This time is about YOU and no one else. Cherish it.Until next time,
